Brighouse ends the season with a gritty contest against young Mariners
Orange over 35s side Brighouse closed out its 2019 season with a hard-fought battle against Waratahs Mariners in the C Grade Division 3 consolation grand final.
In weather conditions which featured wind, heavy rain and a dust storm, the green and white stripes battled to half time with both sides scoreless.
After about 70 minutes Waratahs made the breakthrough with a flying kick from a superbly weighted corner.
The second goal came just minutes from full time when Tahs broke through against the run of play to take the match 2-0.
Brighouse goal scorer Mark Brouff, with four to his name this season, ended the match with a broken big toe.
The side looks back on the season with pride after posting three wins and a draw – a dramatic improvement on its winless 2018 season.
Team manager Murray McCloskey said he was proud to have spent his Saturdays with the Brighouse crew and play some fun football.
The team is now looking forward to presentation night where its top three players as voted by the playing group and its golden boot, Andrew Pansini, with six goals, will be recognized in front of the proud club.
