Brighouse earn grand final berth after clean-sheet win

Brighouse will wrap up their 2019 season with a grand final berth, defeating Waratahs Eagles 3-0 in the Division 3 C Grade final at Sir Jack Brabham Park on Saturday.

The over 35s outfit became the third Barnstoneworth side to progress to the big dance on September 21 after A and B grade Barnies also booked their places in the grand finals.

Both sides started the match with 10 players, with Brighouse benefitting from two late arrivals to give them one sub for the match.

The breakthrough came early in the first half when Andrew Pansini delivered a pinpoint corner kick to the head of Murray McCloskey, who drilled it into the goal on the back post.

Soon after, McCloskey returned from the subs bench and within minutes set up an assist to Mark Brouff who slotted in his fourth goal of the season.

Brighouse went to the break 2-0 up, with the second half played in warm conditions on a dry, bouncy pitch.

Pansini created his second assist of the game when he put the ball through for striker Roland Gruneis to run onto and finish off, giving the home side a 3-0 full time score line.
