United too strong for Mariners in C-Grade

Barnstoneworth United hit the 2nd leg of a three game away stretch when they took on Waratah Mariners at Waratahs sports ground on Sunday.

United, the C grade competition leaders, barely managed to scrape a team together with mid season injuries and absences taking their toll.

The young Waratah Mariners outfit, led by the experienced Wayne Penrose and Jason Bargwanna hit the ground running and controlled the match from the opening whistle.

Mariners were rewarded with the opening goal, catching United fill in keeper Mick Carpenter off his line.

Mariners hit the sheds at half time leading 1-0, but the experienced old heads of United refused to panic following a stirring half time speech from Barnies president Wayne Stephens.

United clawed their way back into the match early in the 2nd half following great work from Benny Fitzpatrick who found space for Nigel Hobden to hit the back of the net.

United added their second five minutes later through a Nick Mastrangeli penalty.

Mastrangeli added the third and final goal of the game following some excellent work from the back from Wes Miller and Mickey Flynn.

The final result was 3-1 to United who hit the road to Cowra next week to finish off their trio of away games.
