Depleted Denley drag draw from jaws of defeat

The defender whose deflection delivered defeat the week before came back with a vengeance in the latest round of the C-Grade competition.

No less than a hat-trick from Phil Bennett kept Denley in contention of a semis berth as the competition drifts into its final rounds.

CYMS Gold bounced back confidently from a 4-0 loss earlier in the seasons to score three goals, two from Ben Crean and one from Ben Churchland.

But each time CYMS scored, Bennet struck back soon after.

The first came when a high chip bounced off the cross the bar and the off the back of the CYMS keeper’s head before finding the net.

With CYMS in front 2-1 at the main break, Denley was sparked into action.

A long cross from Michael Lewis was followed into the net , and a third secured the 3-3 result.

With ranks depleted by injuries, Denley hung on to go away with a point.
