C-Grade United's win boosts confidence

After a couple of losses on the trot in C-Grade, Barnstoneworth United were keen to steady the ship and maintain their position on top of the table against an improving Waratah Eagles outfit on Saturday.

Mick Carpenter thought he had scored his first for the year when he let go a thunderous rocket, only to be denied by the cross bar. Striker Glenn Harpley was hand to volley home the deflection.

Waratah Eagles started to control the middle and a probing run down the right hand side found United keeper Matt Savaro off his line and the scores were again level.

United hit straight back through Brett Hazzard when he directed a header into the back of the net from a Nigel Hobden cross.

United had several more opportunities in the 2nd half and the woodwork was hit on no less than four occasions, however United could only manage one more goal, following a corner kick that was deflected by a Waratahs player into the back of the net.
