Tight semis series ahead in over 35s


CLASH : The switch by Denley’s Nick Hyndes to the midfield continues to pay off for the side that finished the season in 4th place.

Two 1-0 matches to end the season in the Orange over 35s football competition show just close the upcoming finals series is shaping up to be.

After a string of defeats, Millthorpe Tigers are finding form at the right end of the season with a 1-0 win over minor Premiers Barnstoneworth United.

United lost playmaker Glenn Harpley early in the match to injury and then failed to convert a number of chances.

It took well into the second half before the Tigers’ Andrew Duffell found the back of the net for the game’s only goal.

The win consolidated Millthorpe’s No.2 spot on the table. The two sides meet in the major semi at Brabham stadium at 3pm on Saturday.

Premiers Gladdyatahs were under pressure early in their match against Denley Moor.

Denley have found new form with the move by former winger Nick Hyndes to the midfield. The discovery of possession-based play has come just at the right time, boosting the confidence of defenders Chris Cameron and Jim Gordon-Smith.

Gladdies too kept up the pressure and the breakthrough came with a twisting run from Tony Slingsby on the counter from a Denley chance. The strong shot gave keeper Pat Driver no chance.

The two sides will be looking for fresh ideas when they meet up again in the elimination minor semi at Waratah Sportsground at 1.15 on Saturday.

Reigning A-grade premiers Barnstoneworth United kept their hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Ex-Services.

In B-Grade, Barnstoneworth UnIted's remarkable undefeated season showed no signs of drifting in the season’s last match.

The 4-1 win over Blayney will boost the side’s confidence ahead of the major semi clash against Ex-Services at Bernie Stedman field at 3pm on Saturday.
