Gladdies firm up pitch for top spot

HEADER : Barnstoneworth Unted forward Andy Holmes leaps high to send a header past Denley defenders. Holmes finished with a double.

Last year’s premiers Gladdyatahs have consolidated their form with a win over the team at the top of the over 35s Orange football competition, Millthorpe Tigers.

The win reversed the result in their last encounter when Millthorpe got up 2-1.

Barnestoneworth United are shaping up as the premiers’ main threat after a convincing 3-0 win over Denley Moor.

United forward Andy Holmes scored two and Glenn Harpley one, while Denley struggled to keep their shape and hold possession.

Denley defender Dan Rumbold came closest with a shot richoceting off the upright, while Richie Shields led from the front dug deep but shots were sent wide.

Ex-Services were too good for Barnestoneworth in the latest A-grade round. Barnestoneworth scored first off a Sam Sutton corner that found the net unassisted.

Ex-services equalised by the half-time break, then played the long-ball effectively to finish 3-1 up.

Barnestoneworth’s unbeaten run in the B-grade comp came under serious threat in their match against Millthorpe.

Brendan Manning opened the scoring for Barnestoneworth, getting on the end of a cross to head a ball behind the keeper.

Millthorpe equalised late in the second half, the 1-1 result delivering Barnestoneworth’s first draw of the season.
